Marine Ballast Water Pump

Overview

The marine ballast pump is a core component of a ship's ballast water system, designed to adjust vessel stability, balance loads, and optimize navigation performance. Its design strictly complies with the IMO Ballast Water Management Convention (BWM), ensuring efficient seawater handling while preventing invasive species transfer. It is suitabe for various vessel types, including ocean-going ships, oil tankers, and LNG carriers.

Drive Options

Electric Motor Drive: Powered by the ship’s main power or emergency generator, offering smooth and low-noise operation for routine ballasting tasks.

Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) (Optional): Adjusts pump speed via a frequency converter to precisely control flow and energy consumption, improving system efficiency.

Applications

Ballast Water Injection/Discharge: Rapidly adjusts vessel draft to ensure navigational stability.

Cargo Hold Cleaning: Works with high-pressure water systems to remove residues (e.g., oil, particles) from cargo holds.

Ballast Water Treatment System (BWTS): Integrates with UV and filtration units to meet D-2 discharge standards.

Performance Parameters

Flow Range: 200 ~ 5000 m³/h

Head Range: 30 ~ 100 m

Working Pressure: 0.5 ~ 1.0 MPa

Advantages

Corrosion-Resistant Design:

Impeller and casing made of stainless steel 316L or epoxy-coated cast iron, resistant to seawater chloride corrosion.

Mechanical seals ensure a leakage rate <0.1%.

Certifications :

Certified by DNV, CCS, ABS, and other classification societies.

Energy Efficiency:

Equipped with an optimized hydraulic model, achieving IE3 energy efficiency and 15%~20% energy savings compared to traditional pumps.

Operation of Ballast Water Pumps

Marine Ballast Pump process.png

1. First close the ballast pump inlet valve, then open the subsea valve, open the ballast pump outlet valve (a global check valve and a glove valve respectively) and the ballast tank inlet valve that requires a ballast pump (if possible Symmetrical opening), outdoor main and side valves.

2. At this time, there is pressure display on the inlet pressure gauge of the ballast pump, please start the ballast pump and pay attention.

Make sure the pressure gauge indicates that the inlet vacuum is between -0.05-0. The outlet pressure is 0-0.4, and the action is normal. When the ballast tank is filled with water, it overflows from the corresponding vent pipe.

After the ballast is complete, close the above valve.
